Preventive Resins
A Preventive Resins (also called a pit and fissure sealant) is a professionally applied material that is put on the chewing surfaces of back teeth to prevent cavities. Sealants provide a physical barrier so that cavity causing bacteria cannot settle in the deep grooves of the teeth. This procedure is pain free and can be accomplished in one visit. The result is a smooth tooth surface, like an ice skating rink, which will not trap food and plaque on the surface.
Children and young teens need to receive Preventive Resinss shortly after the eruption of the permanent first molars (about age 6) and permanent second molars (about age 12 or 13). Some young adults with potential for pit and fissure decay may also benefit. We can tell you if you or your child would benefit from Preventive Resinss.
To schedule a appointment, contact our office 248-362-1100.
Adults also benefit from the resins, ask your doctor if you qualify.
